A senior police officer in St. Andrew is facing multiple drug-related charges after authorities intercepted a large quantity of cocaine linked to him.
Martin Walker, 51, of Greater Portmore, St. Catherine, who serves in an administrative role at the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, was charged with possession, trafficking, and dealing in cocaine. The charges were officially filed on Saturday following a formal question-and-answer session attended by his attorney, Christopher Townsend.
The arrest occurred last Thursday during a coordinated operation by detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) at a bar in Woodford Park, Kingston 4. A Jamaica Defence Force member and a mechanic were also detained in connection with the raid.
Investigators discovered 12.5 pounds of cocaine in Inspector Walker’s vehicle. Sources indicate that the officer initially resisted a search but later admitted the drugs were in his car when questioned by a senior FNID officer. The seized cocaine is estimated to have a street value approaching $100 million.
Authorities also confiscated Inspector Walker’s service firearm, 53 rounds of ammunition, his police identification, and a cellphone. Arrangements for his first court appearance are currently underway.
