Spouse of 62-Year-Old Fisherman Gunned Down in Negril, Westmoreland, Succumbs to Gunshot Injuries at Hospital

The Negril police in Westmoreland report that a 49-year-old woman, who was shot and injured after gunmen invaded her home in Negril, Westmoreland last Thursday night, killing her common-law husband, has died at the hospital.

She has been identified as Althea Hunter of Nonpareil Heights, Negril, and her spouse as 62-year-old Kelvin Whitmore, a fisherman also of Nonpareil Heights.

Reports indicate that shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Whitmore, along with Hunter and their two children, were at home when two armed men kicked off the door to the children’s room and entered the dwelling.

The gunmen walked to the bedroom occupied by Hunter and Whitmore and opened fire, hitting them both, before making good their escape on foot in the area.

The police were summoned, and upon arrival, Whitmore, who was discovered lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds, died on the spot.

Hunter also sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Savanna la Mar hospital, where she was treated and admitted in critical condition.

Hunter succumbed to gunshot injuries over the weekend, turning the shooting incident into a double murder.
