Chapelton, Clarendon: Shop Operator Killed During Robbery Attempt – A quiet evening turned deadly on Friday night as a 52-year-old shop operator fell victim to a tragic shooting during an attempted robbery.
The victim, identified as Conroy Anthony Osbourne, a resident of Summerfield, near Chapelton, was mercilessly gunned down at his business premises.
According to reports from local authorities, the incident occurred around 10:00 PM at the intersection of Summerfield main road and Public Works main road. Osbourne, who was conducting his routine weekend fish sale business, was suddenly accosted by two armed assailants travelling in a grey Toyota Probox.
The gunmen brandished their handguns and demanded cash from Osbourne. However, when the shop operator refused to comply with their demands, the situation turned violent. The assailants opened fire, hitting Osbourne in the upper body before fleeing the scene in their vehicle.
Despite efforts to save him, Osbourne succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at Chapelton Hospital.
The tragic incident occurred mere meters away from where four individuals lost their lives in a bar shooting last October, further highlighting the growing concerns over violence in the area.
Osbourne, described by neighbors as a dedicated and hardworking individual, was not only a beloved member of the community but also a former soldier who had served with honor in the Jamaica Defence Force for several years.
As authorities launch a thorough investigation into Osbourne’s senseless killing, residents are left confronting the harsh reality of yet another life cut short by violence.
