Shab Don and Co-Accused to Stand Trial for Triple Murder in February

ST. JAMES, Jamaica — Music producer Linval “Shab Don” Thompson Jr and his co-accused, Tajay Clark, are scheduled to return to the St. James Circuit Court on February 19, 2025, to stand trial for their alleged involvement in a triple murder.

The trial date was set on Wednesday when both men appeared before High Court Justice Judith Pusey. They remain in custody.

The men are accused of killing Chadwell “Bomb Brain” Frazer, 27, Chamario “Chippy” Calvin, 24, and Toniann “Too Fly” Reid, 26, during a birthday party on Marl Road in Rose Heights, St. James, on May 25, 2022.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) informed the court that the trial could not proceed because a critical prosecution witness is currently in custody overseas. Efforts are being made to facilitate the witness’s testimony remotely.

“This is not the first time the court was being told this. In fact, the witness in question is in jail in Florida on a murder charge and is very unlikely to be available as a witness in this matter,” said King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson, who is representing Thompson Jr alongside attorney Donahue Martin.

Clark is being represented by attorney Khadine Coleman.

According to reports, Calvin, Frazer, and Reid were attending a birthday party in Rose Heights when a motor vehicle drove up, and gunmen exited and opened fire on the gathering. The three victims were pronounced dead, and two other individuals sustained injuries in the attack.

Thompson Jr has faced legal issues in the past. In October 2021, members of the Specialised Operations SWAT team found an illegal firearm in a vehicle he was traveling in with co-accused Romario “BMR” Scott in Old Harbour, St. Catherine. Thompson Jr was also accused of attempting to bribe a police officer with $2 million during the incident.

Scott pleaded guilty to gun-related charges in April 2022 and is serving concurrent sentences of six years and one month for firearm possession and four years and one month for possession of ammunition.

Thompson Jr was later acquitted of both bribery and gun charges.

With the trial now scheduled for February 19, investigations and legal preparations are ongoing. The ODPP continues to explore options to secure the testimony of the overseas witness, which could prove pivotal in the case.
