At least seven people were killed and one other seriously injured after a private jet crashed while attempting to take off from Bangor International Airport in Maine on Sunday night.
According to United States aviation authorities, the aircraft was carrying eight occupants when the incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene following reports that the plane had gone down on the runway.
Preliminary information indicates that the jet flipped over and caught fire shortly after takeoff amid severe winter weather conditions, including snow. The sole survivor was rescued from the wreckage and transported to hospital with serious injuries.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the fatalities, while airport officials temporarily shut down operations as emergency crews worked to secure the area.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), along with the FAA, has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Investigations are ongoing.
