NEW YORK— Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is scheduled to face trial on May 5, 2025, after being charged with sex trafficking and racketeering.
The indictment alleges Combs orchestrated a scheme of abuse, coercing women into sexual acts with the assistance of his associates. Prosecutors argue that he used blackmail, physical violence, and threats to silence victims, some of whom were allegedly kidnapped. During raids at his Miami and Los Angeles residences, over 90 terabytes of data were seized from nearly 100 devices, including phones and computers. Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, has been held without bail since his September arrest, with the court citing concerns that he could tamper with witnesses.
The charges stem from a broader investigation into Combs’ alleged criminal enterprise, which spans several years and includes reports of blackmail and arson. Prosecutors have indicated that the indictment may be expanded to include more charges or additional defendants. The trial will be closely watched, especially given the intense media scrutiny and public attention surrounding the case, particularly after a video aired on CNN showing Combs allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend and protégé, singer Cassie, in 2016.
Combs’ defense team has argued that this media exposure could unfairly influence the jury pool, but the judge has already denied several motions, including one for bail, citing the potential threat Combs poses to the community. Combs has denied all allegations and remains in federal custody pending the trial.
