SEAFORD TOWN, Westmoreland — Residents of Seaford Town blocked the main road on Monday morning as they demanded justice for 34-year-old Jordan “Peppa” Smith, who was fatally shot during a police operation in the community on Friday.
Scores of residents carrying placards used trees, old appliances and other debris to block the roadway. Some of the material was reportedly set ablaze earlier.
Police say Smith was killed during an exchange of gunfire after officers went to a house in the community in search of a murder suspect. A firearm was reportedly seized during the operation.
Residents, however, have rejected the police account, insisting that Smith was not a troublemaker and questioning the circumstances surrounding his death.
