KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information has ordered the closure of all schools across Jamaica on Tuesday, November 5, due to the anticipated effects of Tropical Storm Rafael. The decision, announced on Monday evening, follows consultations with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
Minister of Education, Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, emphasized that the well-being of students and educators remains the Government’s top priority. “The safety of our students and educators is paramount. We are urging all schools to utilise online platforms where feasible so that learning can continue even as we prioritize safety,” she stated in the advisory.
With Tropical Storm Rafael expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding, school administrators are encouraged to prepare for the possibility of extended closures. Minister Morris Dixon added that the Ministry will continue to monitor the storm’s impact closely and provide updates to the public as the situation evolves.
Students, parents, and educators are advised to stay tuned to official communication channels for any further information or instructions.
