Clarendon, Jamaica – A man, known only by the alias “Satan,” was fatally shot by the police on Tuesday morning in May Pen, Clarendon, after allegedly attacking lawmen with a machete.
Reports are that around 11:20 a.m., police responded to a call about a disturbance along Bromanty Street in the town. Upon arrival, they were reportedly confronted by the man, who eyewitnesses say was of unsound mind.
The man, armed with a machete, allegedly launched an attack at the officers. The cops say they were forced to take evasive action during which he was shot.
He was quickly assisted to the May Pen Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The deceased, only known by the street name Satan, has left the community in shock. Residents say they are not surprised by the confrontation, as the man had a reputation for erratic behaviour.
Meanwhile, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since opened a probe into the matter, as the shooting adds to the growing number of police-related fatalities across the island.
