Gayle, St. Mary, Jamaica – An elderly farmer was allegedly killed in the Gayle community in St. Mary on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 61-year-old Rollin Henry of Spring.
According to police reports, at approximately 12:00 am, Henry and his family smelled smoke emanating from a section of their house used as a washroom. Henry and his son, both armed with machetes, went to investigate.
Upon investigation, they encountered 48-year-old Wendell ‘Rum Cream’ Mills, who was allegedly setting the washroom on fire. A confrontation ensued, during which Mills allegedly overpowered the two men and used one of the machetes to inflict chop wounds to the older Henry’s head and feet. The younger Henry escaped unharmed.
Police were called to the scene and apprehended Mills, who is now in custody.
A resident of the community described Mills as a “nuisance” and expressed relief at his arrest. The resident stated that Mills had previously attempted to burn down another resident’s house a few weeks prior, but the attempt was thwarted when the homeowner and other residents were alerted in time. It has been reported that Mills was receiving treatment for a medical condition.
