Rodney King, the man who was brutally assaulted by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), that was caught on tape in 1992, has a docuseries which will  be produce by Morgan Freeman and Lisa McCreary.

The docuseries will be around Rodney King’s youth with an alcoholic father, the assault and his unwillingness to accept a civil rights leader position will  be portray in the film.

Revelations, along with director Sheldon Wilson, has acquired the rights to 20 hours of newly discovered and never-before-seen video footage of King that was filmed over a 12-year period by Dennis McDougal and Ira Abrams before King’s 2012 death.

Lisa McCreary spoke candidly to reporters that  “Our company is about revealing the truth, and we thought this would be a great way to reveal the truth about who this man was,” McCreary said. “We’ve had such a narrow view of who he was. There’s so much more to the story. I’m excited to finally be able to reveal the truth.”

McCreary also stated the film of Rodney King and its objective, in the coming weeks is to pitch the project to networks, including A&E, Amazon.com, CNN, HBO and Netflix.

It is reported that King’s surviving family members are working with the producers and will appear on camera along with his attorneys, Steven Lerman and Milton Grimes, and the Rev. Al Sharpton and Dr. Drew Pinsky.

 

Rodney king was a taxi driver, who was stopped by police officers following a high speed car chase. A footage was sent to a media house, showing  four officers surrounding King, several of them striking him repeatedly, while other officers stood by. He was beaten and taser in the midst of the attack.

Four officers were arrested and charged but all were later acquitted, it spark a massive riot in Los Angeles where police stations were attacked, buildings were burnt and massive road blocks. The trial  reopened and two of the officers were later convicted and imprisoned, two were acquitted. Rodney King got a settlement.

King passed away in June 2012, after his fiancé found his body in the bottom of a swimming pool.
