Several residents of Coopers Pen in Trelawny were left homeless Tuesday after approximately 25 homes were demolished.
Residents say they were awakened around 3:00 a.m. by workmen using heavy-duty equipment to tear down the houses. They claim they had lived on the property for decades and were not given notice to vacate.
A strong police presence was observed during the operation. Residents say the land has been the subject of a longstanding court dispute and are now appealing to the relevant authorities for help.
Families affected by the demolitions were seen salvaging their belongings as they considered their next steps.
