A reputed don from rural St Andrew and the father of a prison inmate were each hit with multiple life sentences on Monday, after a Supreme Court judge found them guilty of trafficking, dealing in, and possessing illegal guns and ammunition.
Romario Cunningham and Courtney Rhoden were caught in a CTOC-led sting last November after police tracked a Toyota Probox carrying Rhoden to a hardware in Mona, where he handed over an illegal rifle and ammo to Cunningham.
The covert operation, caught on camera, ended in a swift takedown by officers. Two other men were arrested but later acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Cunningham, who allegedly planned to use the gun to forcibly take control of his community, received life with parole after 20 years. Rhoden, in his 60s, also got multiple life terms, with parole possible in 20 years.
Justice Vaughn Smith praised Detective Sergeant Clayon Fearon for a solid investigation.
