Reggae Boyz Edge Honduras 2-1 in Hard-Fought Concacaf Nations League Clash

The Reggae Boyz secured a gritty 2-1 victory over Honduras in Tuesday’s Concacaf Nations League Group B encounter at the Estadio Nacional Chelato Uclés. A second-half penalty from Michail Antonio sealed the win, marking the first triumph of the Steve McClaren era for the Jamaican team.

The victory propels Jamaica to four points, tying them with Nicaragua at the top of the group, following a disappointing 0-0 draw against 10-man Cuba on Friday.

Jamaica’s goalkeeper Andre Blake was the standout performer, delivering a stellar display with several crucial saves in the second half to keep his team in the game.

After a physical first half, the Reggae Boyz broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when Norman Campbell’s low cross was inadvertently turned into the Honduran net by defender Denil Maldonado.

However, Honduras responded almost immediately. Just a minute later, David Ruiz-Ochoa leveled the scores with a low shot into the right-hand corner, beating Blake through a sea of defenders.

The match swung back in Jamaica’s favor when Mexican referee Victor Caceres Hernandez awarded a penalty after Antonio was brought down by Honduran goalkeeper Luis Lopez. Antonio coolly slotted the penalty into the right corner, securing his fifth goal for Jamaica.

Jamaica will face Honduras again at home in the October international window, aiming to build on this momentum.
