St Elizabeth, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Ratty Gang Member Fatally Shot: A Joint military operation carried out on the border of St Elizabeth and Westmoreland on Monday evening resulted in one unidentified gunman being shot and killed, a 16-year-old student shot and is presently in police custody and a third man escaped. Two illegal firearms were also seized at the scene.

Reports by the police are that intelligence carried out in the parish of St James revealed that Ryan Peterkin, otherwise called Ratty, and members of his notorious gang who operate out of Mother Lane in Cambridge were fleeing the parish to sections of St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

According to the police,  several of the men were tracked to Killmornock in New Market area which lies on the border of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth. An operation was carried out in the area about 3:30 p.m. on Monday evening and a group of gunmen engaged the joint military team in a shootout.

Ratty Gang Member Fatally Shot: during the shootout, the unidentified gunman was shot and killed. The 16-year-old student was shot and injured and a third man who was also involved in the shooting was seen making his escape in nearby bushes.

The 16-year-old student was treated at hospital and released into police custody.

Two illegal firearms, an Uzi submachine gun containing thirty-one live 9mm rounds and a 9mm Browning semi-automatic pistol were reported to have been seized from the men.

The police stated that the “Ratty Gang” have been creating mayhem and terror in Cambridge, St James over the past year and they are said to be behind over fifteen murders which have taken place in Cambridge area.

Since the State of Emergency has been imposed on the parish of St James, the security forces have learned that Peterkin and his gang are now posing as Market vendors and are fleeing to sections of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth.

The security forces say they are still carrying out searches on the area in search of Peterkin and other members of his gang.  Also, several security checkpoints have been set up in various sections of the area.
