St Ann, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Resident s of Pineapple Place in Ocho Rios, St Ann are calling for justice over what they call police brutality and unjustified killing. While police report that a Pineapple Place man confronted the police in a gun battle on Monday and was fatally shot.
The man shot and killed has been identified as 37-year-old Quincy Frater, also known as Tallah of a Pineapple Place address, in St Ann.
The police state that investigators acting intelligence were conducting a search operation in the community at approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, January 29.
According to the lawmen, on entering Frater’s home, Frater who allegedly was armed with an illegal firearm, confronted the police in a hail of gunfire The police took evasive action and returned the fire.
Quincy Frater was reportedly injured.
A Titan Tiger .38 special revolver, along with five rounds of ammunition was taken seized after the shooting.
Frater was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Residents and family member Frater tell a different version of the shooting. They say the police entered Frater’s home in search of an illegal gun and killed him in cold blood.
Pineapple Place man: According to his family members, Frater was cooperating with the police and opened the door for them to search his home, then the police allegedly, according to a relative placed him and his girlfriend to kneel on the floor, while they search his home, then after the search did not come up with a gun, the police allegedly shot him execution style, three times. While he was unharmed.
An official investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), has begun.
The Ocho Rios police department is also investigating the operation to determine what resulted in Frater being fatally shot.
