Kingston , Ja: It’s official! Jamaica’s beloved radio icon Jerry Davy, aka Jerry D – The Vibe Master, returns to the airwaves next Monday, June 15, and he’s bringing heat, heart, and a whole lot of riddim.
The Vibe Master confessed he has been off mainstream radio “for a minute,” as he puts it — but make no mistake, he never left the building. The Vibe Master joins the morning team at Riddim FM, holding down the 6 to 10 a.m. slot, Monday through Friday.
Asked why he decided to join the Riddim FM team, Jerry’s answer is both strategic and personal.
“Now is as great a time for my re-emergence on radio because of the opportunity to help build a relatively new station while making another significant contribution to the nation. My kids will also get a chance to see and hear their dad on radio. New canvas, new possibilities.”
His first-quarter goals are clear:
“Learning and building the audience through community interactions while moving the revenue needle. New canvas, new possibilities for Jamrock to ride di riddim!”
And if you know Jerry D, you know this is not just another morning show announcement.
“We have many tricks as usual to unleash at the right time,” he says with trademark confidence.
“The clues are in innovation and hyper engagement that hopefully will help to elevate many. This could be the best show yet.”
The Title Was Earned, Not Claimed
The “Vibe Master” moniker wasn’t self-proclaimed — and Jerry D will tell you exactly that. It was bestowed upon him by Ribbie Chung, Chris Cargill and ‘Fada Earl’ at Cactus Night Club.
“It went national, regional and international because of how devastating my performances were with the audiences,” he recalls.
For Jerry D, it’s more than a nickname.
“On stage we say, ‘Riddim up, mix and balance for different effects’ — same concept for radio.”
Built for Jamaica — Home and Abroad
The diaspora is front and centre in Jerry D’s plans.
“The diaspora’s contribution to nation building has been phenomenal — whether through investments, remittances or cultural posturing in the world. They certainly deserve the respect and attention.”
He’s backing that up with action.
“Our interactive show will have at least a weekly diaspora check-in,” he confirms, while promising the mornings will feature “financial experts, entertainers, doctors, psychologists, politicians, lawyers, vendors, educators among others.”
Beyond the entertainment, Jerry D is driven by something deeper.
“My mission at this stage is to elevate as many as possible. Greater access to the people — so that the nation’s riddim is felt.”
