Psychic Charged with Grievous Sexual Assault and Larceny in Westmoreland

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – A 55-year-old man who claims to be a psychic has been slapped with grievous sexual assault and simple larceny charges following a disturbing incident involving a woman who sought spiritual help last month.

The accused has been identified as Albert Lawrence, who is now in police custody after allegedly exploiting a vulnerable woman during what was supposed to be a spiritual cleansing ritual.

Reports are that on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the complainant contacted a woman known only as “Sister Joy” in search of a spiritual reading. Unable to meet in Savanna-la-Mar as planned, Sister Joy instead visited the woman’s home in Belmont, Westmoreland, where she performed a reading and recommended a spiritual bath—claiming it would be done free of cost.

During the ritual, Sister Joy allegedly poured liquid from a bottle onto the woman and declared she was under a spiritual spell. She then called Albert Lawrence, who arrived shortly after and allegedly told the complainant that there was something “in her stomach” that needed to be removed.

It is further alleged that Lawrence sprayed an unknown substance onto his finger and used it to penetrate the woman without her consent, under the guise of performing a spiritual extraction. He then demanded $350,000 to complete the ritual, though the woman could only offer $15,000 at the time.

Adding to the strangeness, Sister Joy also reportedly requested used clothing from the woman to perform a sacrifice.

The matter escalated when, on Monday, August 4, a plan was made for Lawrence to return and collect the balance of the money. Police launched a sting operation during the handover, leading to Lawrence’s arrest.

Following a formal statement by the complainant, Lawrence was charged. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full scope of the alleged spiritual scam.
