Psychiatric Evaluation Ordered for 13-year-old Student Accused of Slashing Mother’s Throat in Westmoreland

Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: A 13-year-old student who was taken before the Westmoreland Court on Friday, December 14, for the murder of his mother, was remanded into custody and a psychiatric evaluation ordered by the presiding judge,  to be done on him.

Upon his appearance in Court, the Judge stated that in order for the case to proceed, the teenage boy should be transported to Kingston, and the result of a psychiatric evaluation will determine what path the case would take.

The teenager who allegedly slashed his mother’s throat in the night of Wednesday, December 5, while she was lying in bed watching television, was well supported by his entire family at the Court.

The gruesome murder of 44-year-old Petrenia Grace McDonald, a female farmer of Berkshire district, rocked the entire community of Berkshire.

Reports are that about 7:40 p.m., McDonald’s neighbor was alerted to a commotion at the concrete and board structured house, and went to investigate.

On entering the house the 13-year-old boy was discovered covered in blood and his mother lying in a pool of blood, in her bed.

The police were summoned and upon their arrival, it was discovered that Ms. McDonald had multiple stab wounds to her upper body and her throat slashed.

Micai Stone, the elder brother to the 13-year-old accused told our news team that he had just left his mother’s house, and was back at his grandmother’s house when he got news that something had taken place at the house.

According to the traumatized teenager, his brother who is presently in second form at the St Elizabeth Technicial High School, shares a very good relationship, both with him and his mother.

The accused 13-year-old is alleged to have confessed to committing the act, later that night.
