Jamaica News: The Portmore City Municipality says it has been conducting activities as part of its disaster preparedness and emergency management thrust.

Efforts include the recent mounting of 15 evacuation route signs across the municipality.

The evacuation route signs is one of the steps taken in the preparation of the hurricane season.

The mounting of evacuation route signs is an initiative funded by the Caribbean Development Bank under the African Caribbean Pacific–European Union (ACP-EU) CDB Natural Disaster Risk Management (NDRM) in the CARIFORUM Countries Programme.

Additionally, the Portmore City Municipality has undertaken various activities in preparation for the hurricane season including the training of shelter managers; mounting of shelter location signs; rehabilitation of shelters in tandem with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to suit the COVID pandemic (identification and preparation of isolation areas within the shelters) and drain cleaning.
