Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: The Westmoreland police are now reporting that a man who was on the list of the Most Wanted Men in the parish was shot and killed on Monday, April 23, after he challenged members of a joint military team in a shootout. A 9 mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with several live rounds was taken from him.
The dead gunman has been identified as Dwight Cathy, otherwise called “Pop it Off” or “Nuttenmeg”.
Reports by the Westmoreland police are that on Monday afternoon, a joint military team carried out an operation at a section of the parish known as Lennox-Bigwood, in search of wanted men and illegal firearms.
On reaching a section of the area, they came under heavy gunfire from armed men who challenged them in a shootout. The fire was returned and the men were seen making their escape in bushes.
The lawmen then carried out a search of the area and stumbled upon the accused wanted man, who was seen suffering from gunshot wounds.
The illegal firearm was taken from him, followed by which he was transported to the Sav-la-mar hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A police source told our news team that, Cathy has been on the list of Westmoreland Most Wanted men for some time now and he was being sought for a number of crimes ranging from shooting to murder.
