A coordinated police operation in St Andrew on Monday led to the arrest of five men and the seizure of several electronic devices and high-end motor vehicles.
Law enforcement officers carried out the operation at an apartment complex on King’s Drive near Barbican. Investigators believe the probe is connected to suspected lottery scamming activities.
Reports from the St Andrew North police indicate that the men were inside the premises when officers approached. During the operation, an object was reportedly thrown through a window. The item was later recovered and identified as a key belonging to a BMW motor vehicle.
A subsequent search of the apartment uncovered multiple items of investigative interest. Among them were several documents commonly referred to as “lead sheets,” along with a key for a Mercedes-Benz motorcar that was found concealed within the premises.
Authorities also confiscated a number of electronic devices, including ten Apple iPhones, two Android smartphones, one Apple iPad, a MacBook laptop, an HP laptop, and a Flow SIM card. Examinations conducted on one of the mobile phones allegedly revealed additional lead sheets containing names and addresses of individuals residing overseas.
Three vehicles were taken into police custody for safekeeping. The seized units include a black Mercedes-Benz, a white BMW 4 Series, and a white BMW X6.
Police reported that the suspects were taken into custody on reasonable suspicion of possession of identification information and other related offences. They remain detained as investigations continue.
The Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch is leading ongoing inquiries into the matter.
