PERRY, IOWA – A 75-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing his 74-year-old wife by slitting her throat. Richard Hoesing reportedly told authorities he committed the act to “put her out of her misery” due to her ongoing illnesses.
On Sunday evening, March 16th, Richard Hoesing contacted the Perry Police Department and confessed to killing his wife, Jean Hoesing, who resided with him. Upon arrival at their residence, officers found Jean Hoesing deceased in the bedroom, suffering from a “severe laceration across the front of her throat.” A kitchen knife was recovered from the bathroom.
According to a criminal complaint cited by WHO-TV, Richard Hoesing informed officers that his wife had been suffering from bipolar disorder and multiple sclerosis. He reportedly stated that he killed her due to these medical conditions. Officers at the scene observed blood on Richard Hoesing’s clothing and hands.
Richard Hoesing cooperated with the police and was taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing.
