Security measures have been intensified among members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in Portland amid reports of a direct threat against law enforcement personnel.
According to information from the National Intelligence Bureau, a reputed gang leader from the Corporate Area allegedly issued a warning indicating that a police officer would be targeted in retaliation for a recent fatal police operation in the parish.
The development follows Wednesday’s early morning incident in Sherwood Forest, East Portland, where two men were fatally shot during what investigators described as a confrontation with police.
The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Troy McKenzie and 21-year-old Marlon Lewis, both of whom had addresses in Kingston. Law enforcement sources reported that the men were believed to be senior members of a Corporate Area-based gang.
Authorities also revealed that the individual linked to the threat was reportedly observed near the Port Antonio Police Station shortly after the fatal incident.
During the operation, officers seized two firearms from the men. The weapons included a silver and black Taurus G3 pistol fitted with a magazine containing three rounds, as well as another Taurus pistol with a single round in the chamber.
Investigations remain ongoing as police continue to monitor the situation and maintain heightened alertness across the division.
