MANCHESTER, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) — The Manchester police are on high alert as the investigation deepens into the gruesome discovery of 13-year-old Christiana High School student, Shantina Sergeant, whose decomposed body was found stuffed inside a burnt-out refrigerator behind her family home in Baillieston, Clarendon, on Monday evening.
Reports are that Shantina was reported missing by her father, Lawrence Sergeant, on Friday, October 3. However, just three days later, a police search team from the Christiana Police Station made the shocking discovery — a body in an advanced state of decomposition, believed to be that of the missing teen.
Police sources say the gruesome find was made under zinc sheets, next to the charred refrigerator at the back of the premises.
Superintendent Carey Duncan, head of the Manchester Police, confirmed that investigators are now searching for Shantina’s father, who they believe can assist with the ongoing investigation.
“We are currently looking for her father, Mr. Lawrence Sergeant, who we believe at this point can assist in our investigation,” Superintendent Duncan said.
According to the police, specialized units have been activated to locate Mr. Sergeant, as the investigation widens.
Meanwhile, officers have been dispatched to Christiana High School to offer grief counselling and victim support to students and staff, as the school community struggles to come to terms with the devastating loss of one of their own.
The Manchester police continue to probe the chilling circumstances surrounding the young girl’s death.
