Manchester, Jamaica — The quiet community of Christiana has been left in shock and grief after the decomposing body of 13-year-old Shantina Sergeant, a second form student of Christiana High School, was discovered on Monday.
Reports are that Shantina was reported missing on Friday by her father after she did not return home. A desperate search ensued throughout the weekend. However, on Monday, police made the grim discovery — her body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, covered under zinc next to a burnt-out refrigerator at the back of a house.
Investigators were called to the scene where they processed the area and removed the body to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Tragically, today would have been Shantina’s 14th birthday.
The Manchester Police have since launched a full investigation into the incident. Residents of the area remain on edge as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Christiana Police Station or Crime Stop at 311.
