Kingston, Jamaica – The Hunts Bay police have launched a major manhunt following the early morning escape of a prisoner who fled custody while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in the Corporate Area.
The fugitive has been identified as 29-year-old Garfield Dias, otherwise known as ‘Camfa Ball’, of St Paul Lane, Kingston 11. The incident reportedly occurred around 4:00 a.m.
Dias was in police custody on charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm at the time of his escape. He is described as being of dark complexion, medium build, with visible scars on the left side of his head and right arm.
Police are urging Dias to turn himself in immediately. In a public advisory, authorities also reminded citizens that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence and can result in prosecution.
Anyone with information about Dias’ whereabouts is being asked to contact the Hunts Bay Police at 876-923-7111, the 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
An internal investigation is expected to be launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
