Police Seize Illegal Gun and Ammunition After Driver Flees Traffic Stop in Hanover

Hanover, Jamaica – Police in Hanover have seized an illegal firearm and ammunition following a dramatic early morning pursuit in the Brissett district of Lucea on Monday.

According to reports from the Lucea police, the incident unfolded around 6:30 a.m. when officers conducting an operation along the Johnson Town main road signalled the driver of a grey motor vehicle to stop. The driver, however, refused to comply and sped away from the scene.

Law enforcement immediately gave chase and were later informed by residents that the fleeing vehicle had entered the Brissett Town community. Acting on the tip, police searched the area and were directed to a location where the vehicle had reportedly stopped before leaving the community.

During a search of the vicinity, officers discovered a shopping bag along the roadway containing a firearm and ammunition. The items were seized, but no arrests were made in connection with the discovery.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, as police work to identify and apprehend the driver involved. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

This latest seizure underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to crack down on illegal weapons across the island.
