Authorities in St Andrew have launched an investigation into the murder of a landlord, Roger Evans, who was found dead in his home on Allerdyce Road last Thursday. The 56-year-old’s body was discovered during a yard sale reportedly hosted by his tenant, who is now in police custody.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. An argument reportedly erupted between Evans and his tenant earlier that night. It is alleged that the tenant waited until Evans went to bed before kicking in his bedroom door and attacking him.
The victim was reportedly struck on the head with an electric iron, stabbed in the face, and strangled. The body showed signs of severe injuries and was later found wrapped in a sheet.
The tenant allegedly organized a yard sale the following morning, offering the deceased man’s belongings, including furniture, for sale in the nearby Shortwood Road area. Shoppers, unaware of the circumstances, browsed and purchased items from the property.
The situation took a turn when a potential buyer asked about bedroom furniture and was granted access to the house. Upon entering the bedroom, the individual discovered Evans’ body wrapped in a sheet. The shocked individual quickly left and alerted the police.
The Grants Pen police arrived on the scene, conducted a search, and confirmed the presence of the body. The suspect, described as being connected to a prominent Jamaican family, was taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the events leading to Evans’ death.
