St Mary, Jamaica — Police have identified the man who tragically lost his life in a vehicular crash along the Golden Valley main road in Castleton, St Mary, as 36-year-old Nigerian medical doctor, Dr. Ubung Etti, of Annotto Bay.
The accident occurred early Monday morning, around 5:50 a.m., as Dr. Etti was traveling in a blue Honda Fit motor car along with three other passengers. The group was en route from Kingston to Annotto Bay when the driver of the vehicle reportedly swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
According to the Castleton police, the vehicle veered off the road, struck an embankment, and plunged into a deep precipice before coming to rest on the bank of a river.
Emergency responders, including police and the fire brigade, arrived promptly at the scene. All four occupants were transported to hospital, where Dr. Etti was pronounced dead. The remaining passengers were treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
The news of Dr. Etti’s passing has sent shockwaves through the local community and the medical fraternity, where he was regarded as a dedicated and compassionate practitioner.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing, and police have not ruled out driver error or road conditions as contributing factors.
