The St James police have identified a man who was fatally stabbed during a dispute over a prostitute in downtown Montego Bay on Sunday morning, June 30.
The deceased, 20-year-old Joshua Walker, was unemployed and lived in the People’s Arcade in Montego Bay. His identity was confirmed by his mother.
The incident began around 9:00 pm on Saturday, June 29, when a 39-year-old man, who is currently in the hospital with stab wounds, got into a physical confrontation with a prostitute near the Shoes Arcade in downtown Montego Bay. Joshua Walker intervened on behalf of the prostitute, escalating the conflict.
The 39-year-old man attempted to leave the area and headed towards North Lane. Walker followed him and attacked with a switchblade knife. In self-defense, the 39-year-old man retaliated, and both men sustained multiple stab wounds during the altercation.
Both Walker and the 39-year-old man were taken to Cornwall Regional Hospital. Walker was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other man remains in serious condition.
The Barnett Street police are actively investigating the incident to uncover more details and determine the circumstances leading up to the fatal confrontation.
