St James, Jamaica – Police Constable Linroy Codner, who was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident earlier this month, has succumbed to his injuries. The St James Police Division confirmed that Codner passed away on Sunday morning while receiving treatment at Falmouth Hospital.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, October 4, during a routine roadblock operation on the Granville main road. According to reports, a white Toyota Probox, which had been signalled to stop by officers, initially slowed down before accelerating and striking Constable Codner. The force of the impact threw the officer over a precipice, estimated to be between 50 and 70 feet deep.
Codner was found unconscious at the scene by fellow officers and rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition. Despite receiving intensive care for multiple brain injuries, his condition deteriorated, and he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Following the hit-and-run, police launched a manhunt for the suspect, identified as Dillion Reid, also known by the aliases “Bulby” and “CJ.” Reid surrendered to authorities on October 5, accompanied by his attorney.
