ST JAMES, Jamaica — Dancehall artist Nigy Boy was recognized by the St James Municipal Corporation on Monday for his significant contribution to the global music industry.
The award, known as the Mayor’s Award, was presented to the visually-impaired singer during a civic ceremony at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay. The event took place as part of Jamaica’s National Heroes Day celebrations.
Nigy Boy, who has gained international fame with his hit single “Continent,” followed the award presentation with an impromptu performance of two of his popular tracks, showcasing the talent that has captivated fans worldwide.
Originally from Montego Bay, Nigy Boy has defied the odds, having lost his sight at just six months old. He has since become a key figure in the entertainment industry, both locally and internationally. Earlier this year, in July, he was similarly recognized for his impact on the music scene at Reggae Sumfest, where he was also honoured by the St James Municipal Corporation.
The artist expressed gratitude for the recognition in a pre-ceremony interview with local media, acknowledging the support of his team, producers, fans, and family, which he credits for his continued success. His contributions have not only made a mark on the dancehall scene but have also earned him a place of pride in his hometown.
