Hanover, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Andrea Purkiss, People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for Eastern Hanover, is urging residents to reject any attempts by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to buy votes ahead of the next general election.
Speaking at a divisional meeting in Chester Castle, Hanover, on Thursday night, Purkiss made it clear that her campaign will be grounded in honesty, integrity, and community representation.
The Eastern Hanover seat, once held by the late Dr. DK Duncan under the PNP from 2007, shifted in 2016 when Dave Hume Brown of the JLP defeated PNP candidate Wynter McIntosh. Purkiss now seeks to reclaim the constituency for the PNP, emphasizing her local roots and lived experience in the area.
In her address, Purkiss also outlined the PNP’s commitment to workers’ rights, pledging that a PNP government would ensure civil servants are paid for overtime work. While the current labour laws already make provision for compensation beyond the 40-hour work week, she argued that enforcement and accountability have been lacking under the JLP administration.
The meeting forms part of a wider mobilisation effort across Eastern Hanover as the PNP intensifies groundwork ahead of the upcoming polls.
