A fatal aviation incident at LaGuardia Airport in New York has claimed the lives of two pilots after a commercial aircraft collided with an emergency vehicle on the runway.
The crash occurred on Sunday as an Air Canada Express regional jet was attempting to land when it struck a fire truck that was reportedly on the runway at the time. The force of the impact resulted in the deaths of both the pilot and co-pilot.
Several passengers and crew members sustained injuries in the collision. Emergency teams responded swiftly, transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Some individuals were said to be in serious condition.
The incident caused major disruptions at the airport, with flights temporarily halted as authorities secured the scene and assisted victims. Operations were later gradually restored.
Investigators have begun examining the circumstances that led to the collision, with particular focus on how the aircraft and emergency vehicle came to be on the same runway simultaneously.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine the exact cause of the crash.
