Scottie Scheffler Detained by Police: Professional golfer Scottie Scheffler was detained by Louisville police outside Valhalla Golf Club on Friday morning, just before the second round of the PGA Championship. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, described the scene as unfolding “very quickly, very rapidly, and very aggressively.”
The misunderstanding arose around 5:45 a.m. due to traffic caused by a fatal accident involving a shuttle bus near the course. Scheffler, attempting to navigate through the congestion, found himself at odds with a police officer, who began banging on his car to get him to stop. Despite Scheffler’s attempts to proceed, the officer attached himself to the vehicle, leading to a tense confrontation.

Darlington recounted the dramatic events on “SportsCenter,” noting that Scheffler’s vehicle, a standard player courtesy car, was his means of accessing the course. Despite the confusion, Scheffler’s efforts to explain his situation were met with handcuffs and detention in a police vehicle for approximately 20 minutes.
The incident left Scheffler visibly stunned, with Darlington reporting that he appealed for help as he was escorted away by authorities. Unaware of Scheffler’s status as a golfer in the tournament or his standing as the world’s top-ranked player, police proceeded with the detainment.
Scheffler, originally slated to tee off at 8:48 a.m., faced further delays due to the incident. However, he had already made a notable impact in the tournament, shooting a 4-under 67 on Thursday, highlighted by an impressive eagle from the fairway.
The PGA Championship marked Scheffler’s return to competition following the birth of his first child, a son named Bennett, with wife Meredith. Reflecting on the early moments of parenthood, Scheffler expressed gratitude for his career and family, acknowledging the surreal experience of holding his newborn son alongside his Masters green jacket.
Despite the ordeal, Scheffler shared his joy over becoming a father on social media, welcoming his son to the world with a heartfelt message of love.
