Hanover, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Two men were fatally shot, and another who escaped is believed to have been shot and injured, after gunmen reportedly challenged the police in a shootout in Lucea, Hanover on Thursday night, April 5.  An illegal firearm was also said to have been recovered from the gunmen.

The Lucea police have identified the men as Gawayne Muir, otherwise called “Brodie” and Nicholas Scarlett, both of Mountain Peace District in Lucea.

The police also stated that Muir is the boyfriend and Prime suspect in the murder of 21-year-old Petrice Porteous, the female whose mutilated body was discovered in a shallow grave in bushes at Kew Top in Lucea several weeks ago.

Investigators have reported that, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, a team of officers were on Patrol at a section of Kew District in Lucea, when they saw the three men traveling in a motor vehicle along a section of roadway.  The lawmen further stated that they signaled the driver to stop, but instead of complying, the men jumped from the vehicle and opened fire at the police.

The fire was returned and all three were shot.  One of the wounded men managed to jump from the vehicle and escape in bushes, while the other two who were discovered suffering from gunshot wounds were transported to the Noel Holmes Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

A 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with several live rounds was taken from one of the men.
