Kingston, Jamaica: Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn has officially stepped down after 17 years at the helm of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), closing the chapter on a remarkable 41-year career in public service.
Senior Deputy Director Claudette Thompson will assume the role in an acting capacity beginning Monday, September 22.
In her farewell message, Llewellyn described her tenure as a privilege and a meaningful journey of service.
“Throughout my 41 years of public service I have been privileged to have not only given service above self to the public at the highest level, but I have worked with and mentored a host of fine professionals in my ODPP family,” she said.
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement partners, members of the judiciary, court staff, reporters, the Department of Correctional Services, the Ministry of Justice, other government bodies, international colleagues, and her team at the ODPP. She also thanked the wider public — including her church, former schoolmates, and legal colleagues — for their continued prayers and encouragement.
Llewellyn highlighted the transformation of the ODPP into “the premier prosecuting agency in the Caribbean,” capable of managing complex cases at every level of the court system.
Her official work email will remain active for three weeks to assist with a smooth transition. She urged stakeholders to extend the same professionalism and support to Thompson as she steps into the acting role.
