The Pathways Ministries murder trial took a dramatic turn Wednesday as the defence sought to place blame for the killing of Taneka Gardner on the late church leader, Kevin Smith.
Defence attorney Anthony Williams suggested during cross-examination that Smith, rather than his client Andre Ruddock, cut Gardner’s throat during the October 2021 incident at the St James church.
However, a former church member maintained that he saw Ruddock carry out the killing on Smith’s instructions.
Williams also challenged the witness’s credibility and questioned inconsistencies in his previous statements to police.
Ruddock is charged with Gardner’s murder. Smith died in a motor vehicle crash shortly after the church incident.
The trial continues.
