Hanover, Jamaica — A one-year-old boy, identified as Jaylen Reid, has died following a tragic accident at his home in Cocoon Castle, located in the Hopewell area of Hanover.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, May 2, at a two-story concrete residence where Jaylen was in the care of his 18-year-old aunt. According to police and family sources, both the aunt and the child had fallen asleep upstairs. When the aunt awoke at approximately 6:00 p.m., Jaylen was no longer in the bed.
Upon searching the premises, the aunt made a heartbreaking discovery — Jaylen had apparently fallen from the bedroom window and was found lying motionless in the yard below. An alarm was raised immediately.
Jaylen was rushed to GWest Medical Center in Montego Bay and later transferred to the Cornwall Regional Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Jaylen was pronounced dead in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, around 4:30 a.m.
The infant had just celebrated his first birthday on April 8.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. While initial reports suggest a tragic accident, police are conducting standard procedures to determine if negligence played any role in the incident.
The community has been left in mourning, with many expressing sympathy and disbelief over the untimely death of such a young child.
