Road improvement works are scheduled to get underway on Swallowfield Road in St Andrew starting Monday, February 9, under a multi-million-dollar infrastructure programme being rolled out by the National Works Agency (NWA).
The project forms part of the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Programme and will also cover East Avenue and North Avenue within the Swallowfield community. The total value of the contract is estimated at $40 million.
NWA Manager of Communication and Customer Services, Stephen Shaw, said the Swallowfield Road segment is expected to be completed within seven days, weather permitting.
As part of the scope of work, crews will replace defective waterlines along Swallowfield Road in addition to carrying out roadway rehabilitation.
Traffic changes will be implemented during the construction period. The entrance to the Island Traffic Authority Examination Depot on Swallowfield Road will be temporarily moved to East Avenue to facilitate the works.
The agency has outlined a detour route for motorists traveling northbound along Old Hope Road. Drivers will be redirected onto North Avenue, then onto Arthur Wint Drive, and continue to Central Avenue.
Motorists using the corridor are being warned to anticipate minor delays and are advised to follow posted warning signs and directions from traffic control personnel while the project is in progress.
