A nurse remains hospitalised battling for her life after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband, who later reportedly took his own life, in New Market Oval, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Thursday, October 15.
The deceased has been identified as Nesta Anderson, a window maker and disc jockey.
According to police reports, the couple became involved in a dispute at their home during which Anderson allegedly stabbed his wife. He reportedly inflicted injuries on himself afterwards and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Jamaica Observer reported that the couple had been together for more than a decade and had three young children.
The incident has shocked residents of the usually quiet community. Bishop O’Neil Russell, president of the Cooke Street Benevolent Society, said he had spoken with Anderson just days earlier and was stunned by the news.
Councillor Julian Chang, who visited the scene, expressed sadness and urged people experiencing domestic problems to seek help.
She also called for greater community support for victims of domestic violence, stressing that everyone deserves to feel safe in their home.
