Jamaica News, St James: Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang, says murders are down since the declaration of the recent state of public emergency.
Dr Chang also commended the work of the joint military forces working under the state of public emergency, in western Jamaica.
“The work of the Jamaica Defence Force and the police force in this region, has been exceptional over the past few weeks and the time and effect they have given to it, have to be commended,” Dr Chang stated.
He further stated that, prior to the State of Public Emergency, Westmoreland, Hanover and St James, were collectively recording an average of two murders each day, but this has now ceased.
“Murders and other crimes have gone down since the state of public emergency was declared late last month“.
The security minister was speaking at the official opening of the Jamaica Defence Force Burk Barracks, at Providence in Montego Bay, St James, on Tuesday, May 13.
The JDF Burk Barracks forms part of the phases project values at over $1.6 billion and will provide accommodation for members of the second battalion.
