Jamaica Crime News, St Andrew: A 15-year-old female student who attends the St. Hugh High School and her mother are now dead, while her grandmother has been admitted to hospital in serious condition, after fire said to be the work of a male arsonist, completely destroyed their three-bedroom dwelling house on Race Course Road in Salisbury Plain, St Andrew on Sunday night, November 25.
The dead student has been identified as Tashi Munda, of the above address.
Reports by the Lawrence Tavern police are that about 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, Tashi along with her mother, grandmother and three other family members, were at their home in Race Course Road when they heard a loud explosion, and the living room erupted into flames.
Six family members got trapped in the fire and they all received burnt injuries, before managing to escape through a window in one of the bedrooms.
The police and Fire Department were summoned, and upon their arrival, the 15-year-old student along with her mother, and grandmother, who were severely burnt, were rushed to hospital where they were admitted in serious condition.
Tashi whose body had a large fraction of burnt, succumbed to her injuries at hospital on Wednesday afternoon, November 28.
Unconfirmed reports are that the fire was allegedly started by an ex-boyfriend of Tashi’s mother. It is also said that her mother has since succumbed to her injuries at hospital.
The police are presently carrying out investigations.
