Towayne Gunning, a 24-year-old laborer from Rock Spring District in Hanover, who was listed as the most wanted man by the Hanover Police, is now in custody. Gunning, also known as ‘Tuffy,’ surrendered to authorities yesterday after being on the run since December 2023.
Gunning was wanted for his alleged involvement in a murder in Green Island late last year. Additionally, he was implicated in a shootout with police on April 2, 2024, from which he managed to escape. He now faces charges for both incidents. Additionally, Gunning has been identified as a person of interest in relation to several other gun-related crimes in the parish, and investigations into these offences are set to proceed.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Wayne Joseph, who heads the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Criminal Investigations Branch, praised the detectives in Area One for their exceptional investigative work. He believes their efforts played a significant role in leading to Gunning’s surrender.
In recent weeks, the police have successfully apprehended several other wanted men across Area One, marking progress in their ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the region.
