ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – The Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) conducted a major operation on Thursday morning, raiding the St Catherine Municipal Corporation offices as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.
According to MOCA’s Director of Communications, Major Basil Jarrett, the parish council was the final stop of a broader operation targeting 17 locations linked to employees and associates of the municipal corporation.
“We’ve targeted about 17 locations today before coming here,” Major Jarrett confirmed. “These include the homes and residences of employees and their associates connected to the St Catherine Municipal Corporation.”
The operation, executed under search warrants, is part of efforts to uncover evidence related to alleged fraudulent activities within the municipal corporation.
At this stage, no arrests are planned, but Jarrett noted that this could change as investigations progress over the coming days.
MOCA took steps to conduct the operation discreetly to avoid major disruptions to the public. “There are sterile areas under investigation, but for unaffected sections, business should continue as usual,” Jarrett explained.
The raid has heightened public scrutiny on the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, which has faced allegations of mismanagement and corruption in the past. Authorities have urged anyone with information to assist the investigation by contacting MOCA directly.
Further developments are expected as the investigation unfolds.
