HANOVER, Jamaica — A man who had been reported missing just a day earlier was fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police in Cauldwell, Kingsvale, Hanover late Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Christopher Williams of Strathbogie district in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland. He was officially reported missing on Wednesday, May 7.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. on May 8. During the operation, lawmen reportedly came under fire and returned gunfire, fatally wounding two men. Williams was later identified as one of the deceased.
Police say two firearms were recovered from the scene — a Browning pistol with a magazine containing two 9mm cartridges and a Smith and Wesson with a magazine loaded with seven .45 rounds.
The matter has been referred to the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which are both conducting independent probes into the incident.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the second deceased man. Investigations are ongoing.
