The Miss Global International pageant, which celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, is set to take place in the enchanting locale of Bali, Indonesia.
Founder and chairman, Montego Bay businessman Lachman Ramchandani, O.D.,J.P, recently shared exciting insights into the upcoming event during an interview with McKoy’s News. Alongside him was Richann Vernon, the stunning and articulate representative for Jamaica.
According to Mr Ramchandani, this year marks a significant evolution for Miss Global International. Historically, the pageant has been open to women aged 17 to 27 who are single and disengaged. However, in a landmark decision, the age limit has been raised to 40, allowing married and divorced women to participate, provided they can commit to the pageant’s schedule. This inclusive shift aligns with recent changes in major international pageants such as Miss Universe.

“We believe every woman deserves a chance to shine, regardless of her marital status or age, up to 40,” Ramchandani stated. “This change is about giving more women the opportunity to showcase their beauty, talent, and intelligence.”
“In the last 19 years, our criteria have always been ages 17 to 27 or 28, single, free, and disengaged. This is the only year we have stepped a little further; we have increased the age limit to 40. This has been my ambition for many, many years because I feel it is unfair for a young lady who is pretty, beautiful, talented, bright, and intelligent to be excluded just because she had a baby. She should still be able to enter the pageant,” he explained.
“She deserves a chance to go in and showcase herself just like anybody else. Not because she has a baby, not because she’s married, not because she’s divorced. She must have equal chance,” Mr Ramchandani added.
A Global Showcase
The competition will feature contestants from approximately 50 countries, a testament to the pageant’s growing global appeal.
“We have nine confirmed contestants so far, including Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Philippines, and more. We’re in discussions with countries from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean,” Mr Ramchandani revealed.
Countries such as Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, and Nigeria are expected to send their best, while Asia will be well-represented with participants from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and Bhutan.
Jamaica’s Hope: Richann Vernon
Richann Vernon, a 24-year-old from Montego Bay, St. James, is Jamaica’s hope for the Miss Global crown. Described by Mr. Ramchandani as “very beautiful, very elegant, bright, and intelligent,” Vernon has been undergoing intensive grooming under the guidance of Brittany Clark, Miss Global International 2019.
Vernon’s journey into pageantry began at the tender age of seven, fueled by a desire to build confidence and step into the spotlight. She reminisced about her school life and early involvement in extracurricular activities such as drama and the Heritage Club.
“School life was good, and I involved myself in every little thing because I’m all-rounded,” Vernon shared.
Her passion for community service is evident. Vernon actively participates in initiatives to feed the homeless and supports sick children and nurses at Cornwall Regional Hospital.
“Being homeless doesn’t mean you’re mad; you’re just not as fortunate,” she said.
Her compassion and commitment to social causes set her apart and align perfectly with the values Miss Global International promotes.

A Vision for Change
Vernon’s ambitions extend beyond the crown. She aims to implement etiquette classes in schools to foster better manners and reduce aggression among students.
“If you teach them how to walk, talk, and have proper table manners, it can impact how they interact with others,” Vernon explained. She believes this approach could even help reduce crime rates by promoting gentleness and respect from a young age.
Her personal motivation stems from a promise to her late father, who encouraged her to pursue greatness.
“He told me he was proud of me and that I should not stop,” Vernon recalled. She also wants to set a strong example for her young daughter, showing her the importance of striving for excellence and helping others.
As Miss Global International celebrates two decades of empowering women worldwide, the inclusion of contestants up to 40 years old and from diverse backgrounds signals a progressive and inclusive future for the pageant.
With contestants like Richann Vernon poised to take the stage, the competition promises to be a spectacular showcase of beauty, intelligence, and cultural diversity.
The world will be watching as these incredible women gather in Bali to compete for the coveted title of Miss Global International 2024. Each contestant brings a unique story and vision, embodying the essence of the pageant’s mission: to celebrate and empower women globally.
