KINGSTON, Jamaica — Residents of Chancery Hall, St Andrew, were briefly rattled early Wednesday morning by a minor earthquake registering a magnitude of 2.9.
The Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies reported that the tremor occurred at approximately 5:13 a.m. The epicenter was located about 11 kilometers south of Annotto Bay, St Mary, with a focal depth of 14 kilometers.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries. However, the brief shaking served as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for seismic activity, as Jamaica is situated along active tectonic plate boundaries.
The Earthquake Unit continues to monitor seismic activity across the island and advises citizens to take precautionary measures in the event of stronger quakes.
