St Thomas, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – A minivan driver narrowly avoided serious injury after his vehicle skidded off the White Horses main road near Shady Spring on Wednesday evening, police report.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m., leaving the driver with minor injuries after the vehicle slammed into a nearby ditch.
Preliminary investigations suggest that spilled sediments from trucks carrying construction materials may have caused the accident. Authorities say such spills have been a recurring hazard in recent months.
In May, Minister of Works Robert Nesta Morgan called on police to enforce regulations against truck drivers whose vehicles spill cement, concrete mix, and other materials onto roadways. Under Section 97 of the Road Traffic Act 2018, offenders can face fines up to $300,000 or three months’ imprisonment, with authorities empowered to recover the cost of road repairs as a civil debt.
